Olympus Has Fallen (2013) is an action thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua. The film centers on a high-stakes hostage situation at the White House and follows a former Secret Service agent who must save the President and prevent a catastrophic attack.

The story begins with Mike Banning (played by Gerard Butler), a former Secret Service agent who has been reassigned to a desk job after a traumatic incident in which he failed to save the Presidentโ€™s wife during a tragic accident. Despite his demotion, Banning still carries a deep sense of duty and regret.

The plot takes a dramatic turn when a North Korean-led terrorist group, led by Kang Yeonsak (played by Rick Yune), launches a coordinated attack on the White House. The terrorists manage to breach security and take President Benjamin Asher (played by Aaron Eckhart) and other key officials hostage. The attack is so severe that the White House is soon referred to as “Olympus,” symbolizing its vulnerability.

As the terrorists seize control of the building, Banning finds himself in the midst of the chaos. He is one of the few people inside who is not immediately captured or killed. Using his skills and knowledge of the White House’s security systems, Banning goes into action to rescue the President and thwart the terrorists’ plans, which include a threat to launch nuclear missiles.

The filmโ€™s action sequences are intense and fast-paced, featuring dramatic shootouts, explosions, and hand-to-hand combat. The plot focuses on Banning’s efforts to outsmart the terrorists and protect the President while dealing with the personal demons that still haunt him.

Olympus Has Fallen is notable for its high-octane action and its portrayal of a heroโ€™s journey in the face of overwhelming odds. Gerard Butlerโ€™s performance as Mike Banning is central to the film, and he brings a combination of physical prowess and emotional depth to the role. The supporting cast, including Morgan Freeman as Speaker of the House Allan Trumbull and Angela Bassett as Secret Service Director Lynne Jacobs, adds gravitas and depth to the story.
